The Scoot Commute 2006 was a great success. For this year's promotion Scooter Rider Magazine editor BJ Strass rode from California to Florida on a Burgman 400 graciously loaned  by  Suzuki USA.

The Burgman was picked up at the Suzuki headquarters in Los Angeles, California, Ridden north to Sacramento for a visit with family. Upon leaving Sacramento BJ headed south and then across to Florida via the southern states.

The philosophy of Scooter Rider Magazine is to experience the route and thus there was minimal interstate use. Also, no support vehicles were used as all necessary gear was carried on the scooter. Some of the areas ridden were Death Valley, Deserts of the southwest and the Gulf Coast region.

Part 1 of the Scoot Commute 2006 appears in issue #16-Spring and Part 2 will be in#17-Summer.

You can check out the trip blog updated while on the road and also additional photos of the trip in the photo section.

WHY DO WE DO WHAT WE DO
Why promote scooter travel? Somehow our society has come to embrace large, expensive, and less fuel efficient vehicles. Even motorcycles have become less practical as they get more outrageous with huge engines. Consequently, scooters have become one of the last motor vehicles that is still easily affordable to purchase and supply with fuel.

Scooters are a practical, fun and efficient and Scooter Rider Magazine wants to encourage their use. By our riding this great distance we hope to inspire commuters and travelers to consider a more fun mode of transport, the scooter way.
